The number the forecast does not show you is the humidity. Miami summer humidity routinely sits above 80 percent, which means 33 degrees feels closer to 40 and sweat does not evaporate. Anything that holds moisture against the skin without releasing it becomes unwearable within an hour, which is why cotton fails here and why the fibre choice matters more in Miami than in a dry-heat destination at the same temperature.

Miami sits at 25 degrees north, which puts the sun almost directly overhead at midday and makes the UV index reach 10 or 11 through most of the year, including in winter. That is higher than a summer day in most of Europe, and it is the single most underestimated hazard of a Miami trip.

The practical kit is a wide brim sun hat, SPF 50 reapplied every two hours rather than once in the morning, and sunglasses with genuine UV protection. Reef-safe mineral sunscreen matters here specifically: Florida's reef systems sit close to shore and several nearby jurisdictions restrict oxybenzone and octinoxate formulations.
