I want to tell you where this came from.
Not the polished version. Not the version that makes it sound like I had a vision and executed on it. The real version. The one that starts in the middle of something hard and works its way toward something true.
I am Firas Almusa. I am Palestinian. I live in Austin, Texas. I built a merino wool brand called Roman Trail that started as a gear company for women who hike and travel and has become something I did not entirely plan for. Something that is trying to say something real about the journey, not just the outer one but the inner one.
SoulMap is that inner journey made into something you can actually use.
Where Roman Trail Came From
Roman Trail started because I believe in what you put closest to your body. In the idea that the materials you choose, the things you carry, the gear you trust on a long trail or a long flight or a long winter, say something about how you approach the world.
I built it around merino wool because merino is honest. It does what it says it does. It keeps you warm without suffocating you. It breathes when you need it to breathe. It does not pretend to be something it is not. In a world full of synthetic blends and performance claims that do not hold up, merino is the real thing.
I did not know when I started Roman Trail that I was also describing something about the kind of life I wanted to build and the kind of person I wanted to become. But I was.
Roman Trail means something to me beyond the product. It is about the journey. The actual one, on actual trails, in actual places, with actual gear that keeps you safe and warm and able to move. And it is about the other kind of journey. The one that has no map and no guaranteed destination and no gear that can fully prepare you for what you will find.
What I Have Been Through
I am not going to give you a list of my hardships. That is not what this is.
But I want to be honest with you about the fact that I built SoulMap from experience, not from theory. From having been in the room where the hardest decisions get made. From having faced the question of whether to stay or leave in a relationship and not having anywhere to go with it that felt real. From having watched my people, Palestinians, endure something the world has largely refused to fully acknowledge, and having had to figure out what to do with that grief and that anger and that love in a country where most people do not understand what you are carrying.
I built SoulMap because I needed it and it did not exist.
Not in the form I needed it. There were therapists and coaches and self help books and wellness apps and spiritual teachers. All of them had something. None of them had everything. None of them held the full complexity of what it is to be a human being navigating the inner and outer journey simultaneously. A person who is trying to build something in the world while also trying to figure out who they are. Who is trying to love someone well while also trying to heal from what love has cost them. Who is trying to stay human while the world keeps giving reasons not to.
That person needed something specific. And I decided to build it.
What SoulMap Actually Is
SoulMap is not a wellness brand. I want to be clear about that.
Wellness, as it currently exists, is largely a consumer category. Buy this supplement. Follow this morning routine. Optimize this system. It is the language of self improvement applied to the inner life and it produces people who are very good at talking about healing without necessarily doing it.
SoulMap is not that.
SoulMap is a space for the real questions. The ones that do not have a product answer. The ones that require sitting with something uncomfortable long enough to actually understand it. The ones that have to do with who you are, who you love, what you have lost, what you are trying to build, what the world is asking of you and what you are asking of yourself.
It is built around three things.
The first is content. Writing that does not soften the hard things. That talks about forgiveness and repair and intuition and dreams and synchronicity and Palestine and masculinity and relationships with the kind of honesty that most platforms will not allow because honest things are complicated and complicated things do not always perform well on the algorithm.
The second is conversation. A 1:1 call with me, Firas, where you bring whatever you are carrying and we look at it together. Not because I have all the answers. Because I have been in enough hard places to know what the questions worth asking actually are. And because sometimes what a person needs is not a framework or a technique but a real conversation with someone who will not flinch at what they find.
The third is the app. Something we are building that will let you track your inner life the way you track everything else. Your dreams. The synchronicities you notice. Your mood and the events in your life and the patterns that connect them. Something that uses AI not to replace your own knowing but to help you see it more clearly across time.
All three are in service of the same thing. A more honest, more grounded, more fully inhabited relationship with yourself.
Why Roman Trail and SoulMap Belong Together
I thought about whether SoulMap should be separate from Roman Trail. A different brand. A different URL. A clean separation between the gear company and the inner journey work.
I decided against it. And I want to tell you why.
Roman Trail is not really a gear company. It never was. It is a company built around the idea that how you move through the world matters. That what you wear on the trail and how you pack for a journey and what you choose to carry and what you choose to leave behind are all expressions of something deeper than consumer preference. They are expressions of how you approach being alive.
SoulMap is that same idea applied to the inner journey. The same commitment to honesty and quality and the real thing over the synthetic version. No plastic, just merino. No performance, just truth.
They belong together because they are the same thing. The outer trail and the inner one. The gear and the soul. The journey you can photograph and the one you cannot.
Roman Trail Outfitters. SoulMap. One brand. Two trails. Same traveler.
What I Hope SoulMap Becomes
I hope SoulMap becomes the place people go when they are in the hardest part of the thing they are in and they need something real.
Not cheerful. Not optimistic in a way that costs nothing. Real. The kind of presence that does not look away from what is difficult and does not rush you toward resolution before you are actually ready.
I hope it becomes a community of people who have decided to take their inner lives seriously. Who are doing the work not because it is trendy but because they understand that everything they care about, their relationships, their purpose, their capacity to be present for the people they love, depends on it.
I hope the app becomes something that changes how people relate to their own experience. That makes the invisible visible. That helps people see the shape of their own life in a way they could not see before.
And I hope that the conversation I have with each person who books a call is the conversation they needed to have and could not find anywhere else.
That is what I am building. That is why.
If you have read this far something in you is already on the trail. You would not still be here if it were not.
I would like to talk.
